Subject Related Didactics as a Field of Research I

The introductory course in subject related didactics as a field of research is a shared curriculum between all fields of study within the master’s programme. The intention is to give the students’ knowledge of and insight into essential questions with relevance for subject related didactics. Course I consists of two elements: An introduction to fundamental issues in the philosophy of science, history of science and the sociology of knowledge with relevance for research in subject related didactics, and a presentation of qualitative methods including observation, interview and case study. The objective is to help students begin the process of choosing and delineating their master’s thesis through theoretical and methodological reflection.

The student
- has knowledge of and can discuss fundamental issues in the philosophy of science, history of science and the sociology of knowledge with relevance for subject related didactics
- has knowledge of qualitative research methods and applied research with relevance for educational studies
- has knowledge of basic research design

Lectures, seminars and student presentations. Compulsory assignments and presentations must be approved before the student can apply for the final exam. Attendance is required to the degree that compulsory course work is associated with course instruction.
