Text and Culture in the Classroom

The module should give the students insight into the discussion about the role of text and culture in language learning. It introduces different types of text and emphasizes the formative aspects of literature and its role in the development of literacy.

The student
- has a thorough understanding of the place of text and culture in language learning
- is knowledgeable about different types of text, fiction and non-fiction
- has skills in the presentation and adaptation of texts in teaching situations to promote linguistic, cultural and communicative competence and literacy
- can reflect on and give the reasons for choice of text and teaching methods
- has a thorough understanding of the importance of culture in language learning, from a historical perspective to the current emphasis on intercultural competence
- has knowledge about how intercultural awareness can contribute to cultural understanding and prevent stereotypical views on culture
- masters relevant terminology related to literature and culture

Lectures, discussions, reading and writing of texts and presentations. The language of instruction is normally English.
