Doing research with the arts

The subject qualifies the student to commit research- and development work in the field of arts education. Examples from art educational development- and research work are used as an impulse in the subject, as are relevant study visits. The content of the subject is methodologically oriented including the different choices that the researcher makes: to formulate a project idea, define a problem formulation, make a project design and to write a project plan, methods for generating empirical material, methods for analyzing and interpreting, and discussion, documentation, and critical evaluation of research in arts education. The subject also gives a basic overview of arts education as a field of research.

The student has
- in-depth knowledge of methodological perspectives
- in-depth knowledge of generating, analyzing and interpreting empirical material
- specialized knowledge and skill within a delimited theme
- skills in defining a problem formulation through academic supervision
- skills in writing a project plan for a research and development project
- skills in reviewing, analyzing and assessing relevant literature and previous research and development projects, in addition to other sources of information regarding the arts education field
- general competence with disseminating R&D projects of self and others to peers

Lectures and workshops, student presentations, group work, study groups, individual writing and reflection, academic supervision and visual display and oral presentation of one's own research design. The student must partake in lessons in order to carry out compulsory assignments.
