Key Concepts for Critical Social Understanding

The course examines attitudes towards concepts, categories, models and theories in various subject traditions through main concepts from school and society. Concept history and conceptual historicity. Key concepts from subjects such as history, social science, sociology and philosophy. The importance of science and the academic disciplines, their development and changing roles as suppliers of premises for the understanding of humanity and society. Work on adapted communication and teaching of concepts will be central.

The student
- has knowledge of the development of fundamental key concepts for the critical understanding of society
- can define and apply such key concepts in his or her reasoning
- can identify and distinguish between normative and descriptive concepts and give an account of controversial key concepts
- can discuss the teaching of concepts and evaluate simplification strategies as part of the work of organized communication and teaching
