ApPEARS and CHANGE Training School Norway

The content of the training school will span over different scientific aspects of ApPEARS-ITN or CHANGE-ITN project, and provide transferrable skills covering Research tools, Responsible Research and Innovation, and Project Management. Scientific training provided through the training school will focus on, i.e.

CHANGE-ITN:
- Introduction to multimodal imaging systems
- Imaging and analytical techniques for CH documentation
- Introduction to CH artefacts
- Introduction to conservation planning and monitoring

ApPEARS-ITN:
- Imaging and Quality – from Colour to Appearance
- Introduction to 3D printing with hands-on sessions
- Vision Science
- Material Science
- Visual Appearance understanding and measurement

The exact choice and composition of above mentioned topics may vary for both projects. One of the components of the training school is to present own individual research topic to the scientific experts, co-researchers and learn from their constructive feedback. In addition to the scientific part, the training school will also provide training on transferable skills which are important to learn at the early stage of the research career.

After having successfully completed the training school, students are expected to have mastered the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge
- Knowledge of research in and understanding of cultural heritage digitization from the CHANGE-ITN whereas an understanding of Material Appearance capture and reproduction using 3D printing techniques, Vision and material science from the ApPEARS-ITN.

Skills
- Ability to select appropriate research methods and techniques.
- Ability to comprehend complex academic issues.
- Ability to understand and challenge the existing knowledge and practice in cultural heritage digitisation or material appearance capture and reproduction.
- Communication and presentation skills
- Knowledge in responsible research and innovation, project management, and research tools

General competence
- Ability to understand the basics, merits, limitations, and possibilities of new developments in topics related to CHANGE or ApPEARS project.
