Enterprise Architecture for Enterprise Innovation

This course focuses on the role of information systems in an organizational context, both used internally in organizations and to support the organization's involvement in collaboration e.g. through digital ecosystems. It will address the reasons why information systems are designed as they are by exploring the needs of organisations and users, the processes and the roles that the systems support in an organizational and work context. Emphasis will be placed on how IT can support innovation and new services design and bring value to an organization. The course will address methods for business modelling, service design and enterprise modelling that are complementary to information systems modelling. Methods related to modelling and quality assurance of models will be presented. Enterprise Architecture methods will also be presented.

Knowledge: The candidate shall establish theoretical insights into business and enterprise modelling, service innovation and the methods for analysing organizational situations and modelling them.


Skills: The candidate shall establish practical skills in creating good business and enterprise models that enhances the understanding of the design of IT systems and the perspectives of information systems models.

Competence: The candidate shall be able to put the course topics into a broader technological, business and social context relative to the impact of information systems in society.

The main activities will include seminars, tutorials, modelling and term paper. The lectures will be presented in 5-6 seminars during the semester. The seminars are aimed at interactions and discussions among the class participants, rather than a one-way lecture delivery. Weekly tutorials will support the practical modelling and term paper assignment. The course may be taught in English if taken by students without Norwegian language skills.
