Research Methods in Applied Theater and Dramaturgy

The course provides an introduction to research methods and scientific theory related to Applied Theater and Dramaturgy. The students are introduced to key research methods, with a focus on a selection of methodological traditions. Students learn to formulate research questions and to develop research designs The course prepares students for the work ahead with the master's thesis.

The content of the course can vary from semester to semester, and can be connected to the collegiums relevant research projects.

Knowledge

Upon passing the exam, the student must have knowledge of

• research methods and scientific theory
• research as a theoretical field and methodological practice
• ethical challenges, standards for use of sources and privacy issues

Skills

Upon passing the exam, the student must be able to

• discuss methodological issues
• Understand and discuss the choice of design and method in research projects, both orally and in writing
• use relevant tools and platforms for obtaining and processing information, and evaluate sources critically
• can communicate and discuss methodological issues orally and in academic written form

Teaching in the course is coordinated with the bachelor's course DRA2008. The teaching will vary between lectures and seminars with an emphasis on student-active forms of learning, such as group work or individual presentations.
