Dance Technique and Repertoire C

Dance Technique and Repertoire A-C offers a foundation in traditional dance through knowledge and abilities in the dance forms, and using them as artistic expression. Development of physical, technical and stylistic abilities for the dance forms are central, as well as music-dance relationships.
Traditional dance as an artistic expression is the main focus in Dance Technique and Repertoire C ,as well as sharpening and deepening the students’ technique and repertoire, the ability for improvisation and the musicality of movement expression. The student is required to develop an individual project. The project will have traditional Norwegian dancing as core and will eventually become an exam performance. The course requires significant independent study.
The student is required to practice dancing in traditional/ folk dance environments, and to be part of students` performances and projects.
Compulsory courses: ”Other dance genres II” This course gives an introduction to other techniques than is the core of the program and is based on practical sessions, lectures and work in groups to have the two groups of students work together. The course is evaluated as completed / not completed based on participation in the compulsory teaching.

Knowledges:An examinee with a completed qualification in DANS4130
• Has knowledge of improvisation and has evolved expression of personality, musicality, and movement expressions in traditional dance
• Has knowledge of dance repertoire, style, technique, rhythm, and dance music in selected traditional areas
• Has knowledge of interaction among dancers and musicians
• Has knowledge of collecting, searching for and using references of traditional dances and traditional music
• Has knowledge of techniques of rehearsals in traditional dance
• Has knowledge of selected dance techniques from other dance styles

Skills:An examinee with a completed qualification in DANS4130
• Can perform a wide variety of repertoire of traditional solo, couple, and group dances with traditional style, technique and rhythm in addition to holding an expression of personality, musicality and movement
• Can improvise within the frames of traditional dance
• Can collaborate with traditional musicians
• Can develop an individually artistically project within traditional dance
• Can copy/ mimic and analyze dance
• Can plan and evaluate methodology of rehearsing dance

General competence:An examinee with a completed qualification in DANS4130
• Can perform for an audience theoretically and practically
• Can work goal-oriented both individually and in collaboration
• Can reflect upon issues connected to the subject

There are compulsary practical teaching in master classes, plenary, for couples and for individual students given by master dancers and program teachers. The student will work with individual practical tasks between sessions, and are required to write reflection logs and produce recordings from the learning activities. Based on logs and recordings e Each student is required to write a report on his/her individual project. She/he will give a public presentation of the individual project as exam.
