Performance Skills and Projects A

The courses Performance Skills A and B offers a foundation in various aspects of artistic processes. Interpretation, composition and formation of choreographic ideas will be the linking topics. The teaching will focus on presentation of choreography, shaping of dance expression and artistic ideas. During the course students will work together with different choreographs planning, producing and presenting dance performances in various aspects.
A red thread through tasks and projects within the course will be: “Folk dance between dance floor and stage, choices and strategies.”
Students will participate in performances and project.
Obligatory course: “Folk dance between dance floor and stage, choices and strategies.” The course also includes reflections on the function of dance from cultural and social perspectives. The course is evaluated as completed / not completed based on compulsory participation in the classes and upon oral reflection on the given topic (passed / failed).

Knowledge:An examinee with a completed qualification in DANS4121
• has knowledge about the ways how to shape personal dance expression and to use different scenic techniques of presentation
• has knowledge about communication/interaction between dancers and audiences
• has knowledge about different choices of strategies and dilemmas of traditional dance performed on stage
• has knowledge about various approaches in improvisation
• has knowledge about choreographic techniques
• has knowledge about the preparation and implementation of achieved results/presentations
• has knowledge about Norwegian management of culture and financing mechanisms
Skills:An examinee with a completed qualification in DANS4121
• has skills to shape and independently present dance expression
• has skills to work with choreography and present it
• has skills to present traditional dance to various audiences
• has skills to collaborate with various dancers, choreographers and other professionals in formation of the scenic presentation
• has skills to evaluate (reflect upon) own and common presentations/performances
General competences:An examinee with a completed qualification in DANS4121
• can work independently and together with other professionals in the target-oriented way
• can reflect upon issues connected to the subject

There are compulsary, plenary teaching and workshops. Group exam. The group or groups select one project they have been working on during the last year and prepare(s) it for an exam performance.
