Content
Dance Technique and Repertoire A-C offers a foundation in traditional dance through knowledge and abilities in the dance forms, and using them as artistic expression. Development of physical, technical and stylistic abilities for the dance forms are central, as well as music-dance relationships.
Development of dance technique, rhythms and movement expressions from traditional dance are the main focuses in Dance Technique and Repertoire A, as well as focus on repertoire, technique`s for learning from traditional sources and development of technique`s for self rehearsal. The course requires significant independent study.
The student is required to practice dancing in traditional/ folk dance environments and to be part of students performances and projects.
Compulsory courses: The music in dancing This course is based on practical sessions, lectures and work in groups. The course is evaluated as completed / not completed based on participation in the compulsory teaching.
Learning outcomes
Knowledges:An examinee with a completed qualification in DANS4110
Has knowledge of basic dance technique, various expressions of styles and dance rhythms of traditional dance
Has knowledge of creating expression of personality, musicality and movement in traditional dance
Has knowledge of communication/ interaction among dancers and musicians
Has knowledge of techniques of rehearsals in traditional dance
Skills:An examinee with a completed qualification in DANS4110
Can perform traditional solo, couple and group dances with traditional style, rhythm , and technique
Can dance selected traditional dances interacting with the traditional music of the dance
Can copy/ mimic and analyze dance
Can plan and evaluate methodology of rehearsing dance
General competence:An examinee with a completed qualification in DANS4110
Can perform for an audience theoretically and practically
Can work goal-oriented both individually and in collaboration
Can reflect upon issues connected to the subject
Teaching methods
The course is partly given in intensive sessions. Solo and couple dance technique is mainly taught in plenary, partly for smaller groups. The student will work with individual practical tasks between sessions. The tasks also include writing of reflection logs and produce recordings from exercises. . Oral and written reports on dancing in traditional/ folk dance environments are given..
The main dance exercise in subject DANCE1002 Basic Ethnochoreology II, will be advised further under this subject. Students which previous have taken the subject DANCE1002 have to develope this previous work further and attend the public presentation of the main dance exercise. The main dance exercise is under this subject DANCE4010 evaluated as completed/ not completed based on participation in further advisement and public presentation.
