Practical Ethnochorology

The module comprises an introduction to traditional dance technique through dance practice, where reflection, analysis of film and embodying dance material have focus. The module will discuss genre concepts in the field of dance. It is a main aim to work with traditional style in dance technique and dance music with an analytical terminology.
DANCE1012 is closely connected with DANCE1011 or with the course DANCE6005 Norsk folkelig dans in continuing education. DANCE1012 makes up a whole with both or one of those courses.

Knowledge:An examinee with completed qualification in DANS1012
• has knowledge about dance terminology
• has knowledge about genre concepts in the field of dance
• has knowledge about a selection of traditional dances
Skills:An examinee with completed qualification in DANS1012
• has skills to work with traditional style and technique based on film documentation
• is able to reflect on own dancing and can adjust it under to supervision
• can analyse traditional dances by using terminology
• can dance some traditional dances
General competence:An examinee with completed qualification in DANS1012
• is able to apply terminology and analytical methodologies to practical work
• is able to conduct a dialog on her/his own and other’s skills

Lectures, practical exercises and supervision in intensive periods of teaching. Presence in sessions is compulsory.
Assessment: A practical test in a dance curriculum, assessed with letter grades.
