Pedagogics of Traditional Dance

Pedagogic of movement: Students will get an orientation to human motor development from child to adulthood, as well as a rough description of some of the principles of the discipline's general pedagogy. The main principles of didactics and method will be explored in a selection of dance genres, or different varieties of scenic dance, sports dance or health dance. The course is set in a framework of general aesthetic pedagogy, where aesthetic theory is included.

The pedagogics of traditional dance: The students should work thoroughly with problems related to the teaching of traditional dance.

Teaching traditional dance: The students will will be given an introduction into methods and problems related to the teaching of all kinds of traditional norwegian dance for children, youths and adults.

General dance technique: The students will be given a simple introduction into some fundamental aspects of traditional dance technique.

Students should understand general pedological principles of movement and motor development as well as an analytical approach to the didactic aspects related to the teaching of traditional dance.

Lectures and practical exercises.
Assessment: Take-home exam and practical test in dance technique. The home examination counts for 3/4 of the grade and the practical exam for 1/4. Failing one part of the assessment (home exam, practical test) requires retaking the failed section.
