About this course

Content

The course is conducted in conjunction with a project work that integrates the following main themes:

  1. Building technology.
  2. Building Structures.
  3. Installation technology.

Project work is carried out in interdisciplinary collaboration with the subject Building Technology, BYGT2311.

Building technology: Planning process. Integrated design. Architecture. Design criteria. Project analysis. Selection of building technique. Design of technical details. Quality assurance. Building Physics. Climate constructions. Heat and moisture transport. Acoustic conditions. Daylight and sun conditions. Optimization of building envelope parameters. Energy accounting.

Building Structures: Geotechnical conditions. Analysis of structure. Selection of construction technique. Principles for construction. Construction details.

Installation technology: Basic introduction in installation technology. Adaptability. Energy flexibility; Fire technology; Use of building information models (BIM).

Legislation: Understanding of technical and administrative requirements within the field.

Digital string: Digital skills in using DAK software, digital skills in using presentation tools, digital teamwork skills, digtal decorum, digital source evaluation skills.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge The candidate

  • has knowledge of the legislation and the administrative and technical requirements for buildings in the Planning and Building Act and the relevant regulations.
  • has knowledge of technology development, building techniques, components and building materials with a focus on Norwegian building art.
  • has knowledge of the engineer's role in a building project and consequences of the development and use of technology.
  • has knowledge of environmental objectives from a professional point of view.
  • is familiar with research and development work within the subject focusing on national and international standards.
  • has knowledge of building related relevant software such as DAK / BIM and has digital competence in the field.

Skills The candidate can

  • apply current legislation to the design and documentation of solutions.
  • draw building constructions on a scale by using DAK.
  • apply relevant calculation methods to document the building construction qualities using both hand calculation and digital tools.
  • manage methods and tools as the basis for targeted and innovative project work.
  • can work in digital laboratories with digital modeling and calculation tools in the field of specialization.
  • apply knowledge and relevant results from research and development work to solve technical and practical issues within the field of study and justify his / her choices.
  • plan and carry out construction-related projects and tasks, both independently and in groups using digital tools.
  • find, evaluate, use and refer to information and subject matter and make it so that it highlights a constructional problem within the subject field.
  • update his / her knowledge in the field through information retrieval focusing on building research online.

General competence

  • The candidate has an interdisciplinary understanding of the field of profession and what kind of tasks construction engineers are expected to solve in his / her work.
  • The candidate has insight into the environmental, health and societal consequences of products and solutions in building technology and can put these in an ethical perspective and in a lifelong perspective.
  • The candidate can reflect on his / her own professional practice in ethical matters, including in group and interdisciplinary context.
  • The candidate has insight into Norwegian legislation and national and international standards.

Teaching methods

Lectures, exercises, seminars, project-based learning.

Mandatory activities Project work in groups. Exercises. Seminar and gathering participation.

Mandatory activities must be approved in order for the student to be able to evaluate the project and to register for the exam.
