About this course
Content
Hydromechanics: Fluid flow and Bernoulli equation. Flow in open channels, Manning's formula, critical flow. Use of simple software for flow calculation in pipes and ducts.
Water supply technology: Water sources, water treatment, calculation of magazine volume and control heights, dimensioning of pressure lines and choice of pipe materials. Capacity calculation pumps and pump lines.
Sewage and urban drainage: Waste water treatment. Separate and joint systems, dimensioning of gravity systems for foul and storm water. Choice of pipe materials. Overflows and pumping. Calculation of surface water flow according to the rational method. Basic solutions for reducing surface water flow.
Pipe materials and properties. Introduction to water and wastewater planning with simple maps, drawings, and longitudinal profiles.
Digitalstreng: Digital tools for rendering water infrastructure in maps and drawings. Programming and utilisation of digital tools for capacity calculation and design of water infrastructure.

Knowledge The candidate can
- Account for important challenges within the field of water and environmental technology
- Give an account for basic water quality parameters and the composition of waste water
- Explain and suggers common methods for water treatment, waste water treatment and storm water management
- Explain and account for technical systems for water supply and urban drainage management
- Choose from the usual pipe materials used in water and wastewater systems
Skill The candidate can
- Outline the technical structure of water and environmental engineering facilities associated with water supply, stormwater management and sewage treatment, and explain simple connections between components in such systems
- Choose the method of construction for water infrastructure pipelines
- Choose between simple methods for water treatment, sewage treatment and stormwater management
- Make hydraulic calculations of simple water and wastewater systems as well as use digital tools in this regard.
- Perform calculations with pumps in water and wastewater systems
General competence The candidate should
- Understand the importance of environmental considerations within the construction field and how to work with this in the direction of sustainable and smart water infrastructure.
- Be aware of the importance of the properties of the pipe materials in conjunction with construction work in relation to good practice and the life cycle perspective of the plant.
- Be able to update his / her knowledge within the subject through information retrieval.
Teaching methods
Lectures, use of digital tools, mandatory exercises and group work, as well as problem-based tasks for calculation and assessment of solutions in technical systems in practice.
