Students should have knowledge of:

- Who owns, operates and manages roads in Norway

- General principles of planning and design of roads

- Assess properties and choice of materials in the superstructure

Skills students should be able to:

- Use manuals, contracts and standards related to road planning, construction and operation

- Determine needs and methods for road reinforcement, frost protection and drainage

- Determine needs and methods for operation and maintenance of roads

- Determine needs and measures for signage and work warning

- Describe a contractor's operational tasks

General competence the students should be able to:

- Have knowledge of how to plan a road according to the plan and the Building Act

- Have knowledge of dimensioning, building and maintaining the road and substructure of roads

- Have knowledge of operating and maintaining roads for optimal traffic flow and safety
