About this course

Content

Design of steel structures according to NS-EN 1993-1-1, NS-EN 1993-1-2, NS-EN 1993-1-5, and NS-EN 1993-1-8.

- Elastic and plastic capacity of members

- Design of beams and columns subjected to various load types in different cross-section classes,

- Design of columns subjected to buckling,

- Design of Beam-columns

- Connections (bolts and welds),

- Design of elements according to fire requirements.

Learning outcomes

The candidate:

- have the necessary knowledge of the properties of construction steel to assess how these affect the capacity of components in steel structures.

- have acquired professional terminology and be able to explain both the empirical and theoretical basis for the European standard (NS-EN) for the design of steel structures.

- has sufficient knowledge of European standard (NS-EN) to be able to use it to dimension/check elements, connections and systems in the steel structures in the serviceability and ultimate limit state, respectively.

- can use digital tools to dimension/check components in steel structures.

- has sufficient insight into the various safety factors to assess structures from an ethical perspective.
