- Ultimate limit state (ULS).

- Serviceability limit state (SLS).

- Accidental design situations.

- Construction components.

- Behavior of constructions.

- Carrying systems.

- Use of construction related computer programs.

Learning outcomes

The candidate

‐ has basic knowledge about the safety of constructions to be able to assess the risk to the individuals involved in the event of a collapse, as well as being able to see the risk from an ethical perspective.

- has sufficient knowledge of Norwegian legislation and Eurocodes (NS-EN) to be able to apply this to determine loads and load combinations in the serviceability, ultimate and accident limit state on building and bridge structures.

- has the necessary knowledge of the impact of various construction systems to set up static models of components.

- can use digital tools to find design loads and the effects of the loads on components.

Teaching methods

Scheduled time: lectures: 45 hours; organized guidance: 60 hours; work with compulsory assignments: 120 hours; other preparation: 50 hours; a total of 275 hours.

Compulsory work requirements: 4 to 6 exercises, all of which except one must be approved.

The course is designed for online students.
