Credit-bearing internship must be an independent assignment carried out at an engineering company/organization. The purpose of the course is to provide the student with insight and experience from an engineering workplace relevant to the field of study.

The course consists of practical training conducted within the organization. A report must be prepared for the internship period. The internship must last at least 20 days. An internship plan must be developed. The student must keep a daily log of attendance and work performed. The student must submit an internship report/final report as specified in the internship plan.

Both the organization and the university must provide a contact person/supervisor for the intern. The internship placement is formally approved by signing an agreement between the organization, the university, and the student. An internship placement guide has been prepared for both the student and the organization.

Knowledge

• Have knowledge of how an engineering company/organization is structured or how a research project is carried out.
• Possess practical knowledge of various work techniques and production-related tools or research methods.
• Have knowledge of health, environment, and safety (HSE).

Skills

• Be able to integrate theory and practice in real engineering work.
• Be able to compile and deepen knowledge and skills acquired during the study program.
• Be able to contribute to solving engineering-related problems.

Competence

• Have experience with engineers’ tasks and professional practice.
• Have insight into practical challenges in work situations.
• Be able to document project work in a correct professional/scientific manner.

Pedagogical Methods

Competence is acquired through active participation in practical and theoretical work within an engineering company/organization.

Mandatory Requirements

The student must:

• Prepare an internship plan in collaboration with the supervisor at the organization.
• Keep a continuous log/diary with a timesheet. The timesheet must be signed/approved by the supervisor/contact person at the organization.
• Write a final report after completing the internship period.

The final report must include the following attachments:

• Internship plan
• Log with timesheet
• Certificate/note from the organization as documentation of completed internship.
