Students should have knowledge of:

- Basic principles of planning and design of roads.

- Alignment, road aesthetics and good adaptation to the surroundings.

- Basic knowledge of road construction materials.

- Loads on and dimensioning methods for road constructions.

- Laws, regulations and norms that apply to the subject area.

- The subject area's ethical environmental challenges.

- Understand the construction process within road construction within the framework of laws and regulations, and the role of stakeholders.

- That road planning contributes to achieving sustainable infrastructure and sustainable cities and communities.

Skills

Students should be able to:

- Construct a road line with good adaptation to the surroundings.

- Use the handbooks of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration within road and street design

- Implement road planning using various technical tools.

- Dimension road constructions against traffic and climate stresses.

General competence

Students will:

- Apply knowledge of basic principles for road design.

- Assess the environmental consequences of locating and designing roads.

- Carry out sensible choices of materials for the various layers / elements in a road construction

- Dimension road constructions to withstand current and future changes in climate and traffic load.

- Prepare detailed plans for roads/ infrastructure.
