General competence
After completion of the course, the candidate must have the necessary knowledge of dimensioning, construction and maintenance of road and road construction.
Have the necessary knowledge of operating and maintaining roads for optimal traffic development and safety.

After completing the course, the candidate must:
apply the remaining handbooks for road construction, operation and maintenance
discuss the basic principles and methods for sizing and road reinforcement
explain challenges and methods in the construction and operation of roads connected to
tele, drainage, landslides and floods
assess properties and choice of materials in superstructure, damage to asphalt cover
and maintenance of it
explain winter- and green area challenges
describe an entrepreneur and his operational tasks
know standards, contract types and follow-up of contracts in operation and road
maintenance
follow up of contracts in the operation and maintenance of roads
account for challenges and initiatives related to road markings, signage and the
notification
know HSE work in maintenance of roads
know the plan hierarchy according to plan and the building law
discuss and explain who owns, operates and manages roads in Norway

Skills
After completing the course, the candidate should be able to:
use professional sources, manuals, contracts and standards related to construction,
operation and maintenance
dimension new roads
choose materials in the superstructure
determine the need and methods for reinforcement of road, frost protection, drainage,
cover maintenance and filling work
determine the needs and methods for winter operation and operation of green areas
determine the need for and measures for road marking, signage and work notification

Mandatory activities:
4 - 6 exercises. Mandatory attendance first day.
Compulsory excursion.
