Bachelor thesis for Biotechnology

The bachelor's thesis is a written project assignment of scientific quality. The bachelor's thesis should be a larger project work and can be a theoretical literature study or practical laboratory work. The topic of the bachelor's thesis is given by the academic communities at the Department of Biological Sciences Ålesund or through cooperation with the business community. In the bachelor's thesis, students will work with research planning, literature search, preparation of project plan, processing of analysis results and written dissemination of professional knowledge and own results.

Knowledge:

The student has knowledge of a specific academic topic, relevant procedures and analysis techniques that are part of the thesis problem statement

Skills:

The student can apply current knowledge, available literature, procedures, and analytical technology to master a bachelor's thesis

The student can formulate an academic problem

The student can plan, implement, and revise a project plan

Competence:

The student should be able to contribute to the analysis and dissemination of biotechnological issues, including background for the problem as well as assessment of ethics and sustainability perspectives.

The student can integrate knowledge from previous courses, and is able to acquire new knowledge in solving a problem.

The student should be able to systematically apply appropriate qualitative, quantitative and experimental methods to collect data, analyze sample material, interpret, analyze and discuss the results. Through problem formulation, analysis and discussion, the student will demonstrate the ability for comprehensive systems thinking within their own field.

The student has experience with documentation of own work, quality assurance and guidelines for HSE.

Pedagogical methods: The work can take place either in collaboration with companies, external research environment or in connection with research projects at NTNU. The bachelor thesis is normally carried out as a group work with normally 3-4 students per group, under the supervision of employees at NTNU and possibly a supervisor from the client.

Mandatory work requirements: Problem statement and project plan must be approved by the supervisor before the group starts on the practical part of the project. Process guidance.
