Bachelor's thesis in social work

The students are to write an individual thesis with a social work topic of their own choosing

All students will be offered supervision before the bachelor thesis is submitted for examination.

For the completion of the course, reference is made to the Departments guidelines for Bachelor's thesis which are posted on Canvas.

Knowledge - the student has knowledge about:

• Central themes, theories and methods in the field of interest
• The subjects main ideas, practical application and mandate
• To formulate, explore and answer a research question
• Different literature sources, relevant databases and guidelines for correct use of sources in own work
• Source critique, and principles and tools for systematic search in relevant databases
• research relevant for social work both nationally and internationally

Skills - the student:

• Can plan and carry out the task of writing a thesis with scientific knowledge on the bachelor level
• Can be critical and analytical, and is able to use contemporary scientific literature and relevant knowledge
• Can search for and use information and literature that is of good quality
• Can reflect upon the choices of different sources
• Can make a conscious choice of sources, argue for the choices made and document this in accordance with valid rules

General competence - the student:

• Can critically assess knowledge to shed light on different theoretical perspectives relevant to a research question
• Can search in relevant databases, make arguments for the choices made and document own use of sources in accordance with valid rules
• Can present in writing central theories, research questions and solutions
• Can plan and follow through a bachelor thesis in accordance with scientific criteria and ethical demands
• Can reflect upon the practice of social work in the light of relevant theory
• Can carry out critique of relevant sources
• Can plan and carry out a search for literature in a systematic matter and document this process
