Social work Theory and Practice

The welfare state as a frame for social work. Professional ethical guidelines and the core values of social work is essential. The course aims to enable the students to reflect critically in their learning process.

- has knowledge about the connection between framework/conditions and the practice of social work within the welfare state
- has knowledge about the holistic perspective of social work
- has knowledge about the ethics of professional social work
- has knowledge about empwerment and user perspectives
- knows the connection between theory and experience

Skills
The student
- can present central theories on social work
- can participate in dialogical conversations
- can have insights regarding how an individual may solve their problems and overcome difficulties, through mobilising their own and others' resources
- can cooperate, and plan and solve assignments with others in a group
- can understand how personal values and attitudes may influence professional work.

General competence
The student
- has acquired knowledge about theories in social work
- has some knowledge about how social work may be practised in different arenas
- has learned to take on a "resources" perspective when meeting with other people
- can reflect upon basic professional and ethical dilemmas relevant to the practice of social work
- has developed a greater understanding of own presumptions concerning social problems and how these may have influence on professional work.

Lectures, group assignments, training, seminars and field work. Some of the teaching may be given in English.
