About this course

Content

Theoretical basis and use og traffic- and transport models.

Advanced traffic flow theory and transport analysis.

Use of simulation and modelling tools to evaluate quality of traffic flow, route choice, energy, emissions and travel behavior.

Models for travel behavior and estimation of traffic safety effects.

The course is taught every second year.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge (yhe candidate should have knowledge of):

  • Driving forces and factors which affects travel behavior
  • Theoretical basis of traffic- and transport models
  • Verification, calibration and validation of models
  • Practical use of traffic- and transport models
  • Traffic signals and priority

Skills (The candidate is able to):

  • Arrange data, establish model and carry out model calculations to estimate impact of infrastructure and other transport schemes
  • Select appropriate model for different issues
  • Interpret, understand and communicate results from model calculations
  • Assess limitations, uncertainty and sensitivity in results from models

General competence (The candidate can):

  • Use results from model calculations as a basis for an overall decision basis for sustainable transport solutions
  • Approach professional discussions within transport, both public and disciplinary, with critical curiosity
  • Solve tasks both on your own and as a part of a team

Teaching methods

Lectures, workshops, seminars and exercises.

Practical use of traffic models such as SIDRA Intersection, Aimsun NEXT and RTM/CUBE.
