Artistic Practice

This course is designed to further develop students’ capacity to engage with artistic processes and project-based work. Emphasis is placed on formulating and advancing an individual artistic practice and project culminating in a public presentation. Equal importance is given to critical oral reflection and the visual documentation of the artistic work.

The artistic work evolves in interaction with the concurrent writing course BK2453 Critical Reflection and Writing in Context. In this semester, students learn to associate and contextualize their artistic practice with critical reflection and project orientation to gain an overall understanding of process and result in their artistic practice.

After the fourth semester, it is expected that the students have developed skills to create new collaborations in and outside the art space and have the knowledge to be able to formulate a larger project that will form the basis for the third year of study.

Upon completion of the course the student will demonstrate the ability to:

• bring artistic experiments to a stage of refinement and participate in discussions about collaborative projects, using a shared and elaborative language of the artistic discipline.
• present the core elements of the projects in a group setting, emphasizing artistic continuity and situate the practice within its relevant context.
• develop a text that reflects on research as part of artistic processes, describing the ways of shaping ideas and making decisions,.
• participate in, co-ideate and co-organize the 2nd year public project.
• understand and put into practice artistic skills: build, knit, weave and shape narratives, apply DIY strategies, manage available budgets, oversee transportation of works and their installation, public relations, promotion and dissemination of artistic forms and ideas, with a sustainable approach and creative ethics across all facets of cultural production.

Participation in technical and thematic courses and collaborative projects.

Feedback sessions with fellow students and supervisors.

Further development of artistic practice and projects and a more thorough presentation and review of the project on group meetings or joint reviews during the semester.

Preparation for the second year public presentation including joint coordination. Theoretical perspectives in relation to key concepts in contemporary art. Carry through public presentation.

Specific conditions

Approved compulsory assignments are valid in the current semester.

This course is offered to incoming exchange students and could be taught in English.
