On Display: Process and Production

Presenting artistic work to the public involves more than showing the finished piece—it requires clear communication and thoughtful decisions. In this course, you’ll learn to consider your audience and context, connect with institutions, and explore funding opportunities.

Through practical projects, discussions, and theory, you’ll engage with site-specific challenges, practice collaboration in public spaces, and build confidence to work independently with a proactive mindset. You’ll also design public programs and examine contemporary artistic presentations from both curatorial and hands-on perspectives.

The aim is to reflect critically on the role of art in society—asking not just how art is made, but what it can do in the world around us.

Together, we’ll build one or more visual concepts based on the interests of the group. The goal is to find new ways to present ideas—forms and approaches that might not exist yet. In other words, we’ll explore the edges of what we know: in ourselves, in the class, and in the field. This is about getting comfortable with innovative thinking and creative processes.

The course is hands-on. You’ll learn about the many layers and challenges of artistic presentation while working on a collaborative project around a theme or material we agree on as a group. To make this experience richer, we’ll also look for potential external partners to connect with and bring real-world context to our work.

Specific conditions

Approved compulsory assignments are valid in the current semester.

Postponed or re-examination will take place in the next exam period. In the case of a retake, the entire course must be repeated.

This course is offered to incoming exchange students and will be taught in English if necessary.
