Biodiversity

The course will be concerned with protection of biological diversity from society, biological, and ethical aspects. The Convention on Biological Diversity is used as a starting point. Lectures and seminars will consider causes for extinction of species, principles for protection of threatened species, strategies for sustainable use of ecosystems, juridical- and economical frameworks and tools for sustainable management, and socio-cultural- and ethical aspects. An important part of the course is to write a semester thesis. The aim of the thesis is to get experience in analysing complex cases working in an interdisciplinary group.

On completion of the course the students should be familiar with protection of biological diversity from society, biological, and ethical aspects.
