About this course
Content
The course gives an advanced understanding of uptake and transport of environmental pollutants in ecosystems on how pollutants can effect organisms, populations, and thus ecosystem processes. The course focuses on the role of anthropogenic pollutants in a global sustainability perspective. The following topics are included: Bioaccumulation and biomagnification. Effects in different species and animal groups. Ecotoxicology and ecological risk assessment Combined effects of pollutants and other anthropogenic environmental factors
Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
- The students shall acquire advanced knowledge within ecotoxicology by reading scientific articles.
- The students shall acquire abilities to critically assess the content of scientific articles and critically apply the knowledge.
- The students shall acquire abilities to critically present and discuss the content in scientific reports.
- The students will be able to put the role of anthropogenic pollution into a global sustainability perspective.
Skills:
- Ability to apply acquired advanced knowledge within ecotoxicology to understand and predict how pollutants affect organisms, species, populations and ecosystems.
- Ability to critically and analytically assess and present scientific reports.

- Advanced competence on uptake and transport of pollutants in ecosystems and how pollutants can affect organisms, species, populations and ecosystems.
- Ability to critically and analytically assess and present scientific reports.
Teaching methods
Lectures: 6 hours
Seminar: 30 hours, mandatory.
The course has a focus on critical discussions and assessments of research papers, and applies a "flipped classroom" approach where students are active.
