Science Seminars, Marine

The framework of the course is research seminars. Each student organises two progress seminars, the first early in the studies to discuss the scientific plan, and the second towards the end of the studies to discuss their results and interpretations. In addition there will be seminars for the purpose of discussing topics relevant to societal and scientific research and development, such as sustainability and climate change, utlisation of living marine resources, marine industries and technology, biodiversity, etc. The seminars require active involvement and participation from the students.

On completion of the course students should be familiar with their scientific field, and have an good understanding of their own master deegree work.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

• The candidate will know: the activity and results from multidisciplinary research, industry or management related projects in marine science and aquaculture the activity of fellow master student projects

Skills:

• be able to plan and perform a lecture, and to answer critical questions in public be able to take part in scientific discussions om several topics

General competence (attitudes):

The candidate is able to:

• Grasp scientific content of topics unrelated to own specialised field
• Understand the context of different topics being presented
• Have an open mind to explore marine science in a wider perspective

Seminars: About 45 hours each semester in 4 semester, (participation on min. 75% of all seminars through 4 semesters)
