About this course

Content

The course covers molecular biology of eucaryotes. Focus is on gene regulation and mechanisms controlling cellular activities. Topics spans from the structure and organisation of eukaryotic genes and genomes to functional genomics and systems biology. We target why a gene is regulated and how? And what methods are used to study genes, gene activity and proteins. Then we address how we can analyse all genes, active genes and proteins in one go? We briefly discuss the mammalian immune system and how to make antibodies. And how antibodies can be used to detect and measure antigens.

The project report is addressing topics linked to molecular biology. The titles change every year and you will most likely be able to work on a topic you find interesting. Projects spans over a range of topics related to fields where molecular biology is relevant. This can be use of molecular biology to produce, screen, understand mechanisms, diagnose, test, evaluate, solve problems in our life.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the students should be familiar with topics like gene and genome organisation, regulation and function. The complexity behind the control of molecular processes in eukaryotic cells is to be understood. A range of methods and principles are a part of the curriculum and an important goal is to develop a understanding for deciding of the right method to address the various problems.
