About this course

Content

The course will give a general introduction to the most common age related diseases, as well as in-depth knowledge of early and late rehabilitation, including restorative home care. There will be given an introduction to standardized patient pathways and use of health and welfare technology for people with movement related diseases both in acute and chronic phase.
Health and welfare technology is in this context defined as technologic contributing to increased mobility and physical activity, hence increasing the ability to manage in everyday life despite of illness or physically reduced functionality. The course will focus mainly on issues regarding people over the age of 60, but will also be relevant for other age groups.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student:
1. Has obtained an updated knowledge of the most common age related diseases (both orthopaedic and neurological)

2. Has updated knowledge on different models for rehabilitation and prevention of loss of functionality in people with risk of movement related diseases and use this knowledge in a clinical approach within prevention and rehabilitation

3. Has updated knowledge of different health and welfare technologies and be able to use this knowledge in clinical problems to be addressed within the field of prevention and rehabilitation

4. Has knowledge of different standardized patient pathways for people with movement related diseases, and be able to contribute to further development of such patient pathways.

Teaching methods

Lectures, group work, lab exercises.
The teaching will take place in periods corresponding with the sessions given to students in Clinical Health Sciences. The teaching consists of resource lectures, group work and lab exercises, demonstrating the use to promote mobility and physical activity for the students.

All sessions will include compulsory group work. In addition there will be a greater group wrok that will be presented in plenary. The groups will take turn acting as response groups, giving their fellow students feedback on the work presented. The group work will be evaluated as approved/ not approved, and must be approved to be allowed to take the exam.

An individually written essay is to be submitted as the final exam.
