About this course

Content

The student will receive an introduction to the use of various tests and measurement methods for evaluating physical fitness and performance. Focus lays on the choice of methods as well as presentation and interpretation of results. Simple statistical analyses will be used. The teaching is built around projects where students in groups plan, conduct and report on tests and measurements of physical fitness and performance.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

The candidate:

  • has knowledge of tests and measurements to evaluate physical fitness and performance in persons of different age, gender, fitness, and (dis)ability-level
  • has knowledge about validity and reliability of different tests and measurements of physical fitness
  • has knowledge to be able to interpret results on physical fitness related to health, training, and performance

Skills

The candidate:

  • can apply knowledge on physiology, anatomy, motor behaviour and some basic biomechanics to evaluate physical fitness in individuals and groups
  • can plan and conduct tests and measurements to evaluate physical fitness
  • can describe a physical fitness test instruction and protocol so that it can be executed and repeated by others
  • can present physical fitness and performance results in a clear and informative manner

General competence

The candidate:

  • can present and report on own work both in oral and written form using the usual structure of a scientific work (IMRaD principle)
  • can apply statistical knowledge and skills with the use of digital statistical Tools

Teaching methods

The course has teaching activities throughout the whole semester. Teaching activities include some keylectures, flipped classroom, exercises, group work, supervision, report writing, group presentation and peer feedback. The teaching is built around projects where students in groups plan, conduct and report on tests and measurements of physical fitness and performance.

Some of the teaching may be given in English.
