Milieu Theraphy Work with Vulnerable Children and Youth

The course provides an introduction to therapeutic work with vulnerable children and young people and their families, both inside and outside institutions. Through theoretical understanding, field studies and skills training, students gain knowledge of methods and approaches in therapeutic work. The basic understanding of the child welfare worker's occupation is based on social pedagogic. The course focuses on the use of therapeutic understanding to facilitate change and development in children and adolescents. The course focuses on communication skills and the importance of relational work in the therapeutic work.

Knowledge
- has broad knowledge of key theories, perspectives and methodological approaches that provide the basis for therapeutic work with children and young people and their families.
- have knowledge of the legal and organizational framework relevant to therapeutic work
- have knowledge about the importance of using art, culture and activities in environmental therapeutic work.

Skills
- use central theories, perspectives and methods in therapeutic work to justify understanding of situations, action options and method choices.
- reflect on professional and ethical issues that may arise in therapeutic work and adjust them under supervision.

General competence
- can plan, lead, implement and critically reflect on environmental therapeutic work, both written and oral
- can use "the common third" (art, culture and activities) as part of the therapeutic work (such as self development and development of relations).
