Pavement Design

The course is given every second year, fall 2026 and thereafter fall 2028.

This course includes the following subjects: material properties, stress and strain analyses, deterioration mechanisms and design criteria, project level performance prediction, mechanistic-empirical pavement design.

Knowledge: After completed and passed exam of the subject, the candidate is to hold an in-depth knowledge of flexible pavement design.

Skills: After completed and passed exam of the subject, the candidate is able to perform advanced analyses connected to material modelling and pavement design.

General competence: After completed and passed exam of the subject, the candidate is to have understanding of simplifications and theories for pavement design, and be able to utilize this to evaluate the results of own and others work within the topic.

Tutorial study with exercises, colloquia and some lectures. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian follow the course. The use of pavement design software is a crucial task.
