Traffic Safety and Road User Behaviour

The course covers the most important theories and models used in traffic safety research and traffic psychology to describe and understand road user behaviour with emphasis on driver performance.

Knowledge:

The candidate should have knowledge of: -accident theories used in traffic safety, -theories and models to describe and understand road user behaviour.

Skills:

The candidate is able to: -reflect on and discuss the theories of this course, -make practical applications of the theory.

General competence:

The candidate can: -identify the research front of this field, -communicate this course's theories, methods and applications both written and oral.

The course is lectured when needed for the department's own PhD-students, but is also available for others when being taught. The course is lectured at seminars and as a guided self-study. The mandatory exercises include presentation of parts of the curriculum at seminars with other students, teachers and researchers. In addition, a project report should be written presenting and discussing the curriculum and its relevance for own doctorate project. Lectures and exercises will be given in English for students in this course who do not speak Norwegian. To pass the course a score of at least 70 percent is required.
