Evidence-based practice in the clinic

Evidece-based practice (EBP) involves combining clinical experience and expertise with the best available research-based knowledge. High-quality audiological services should be based on up-to-date knowledge and research. Audiologists must therefore actively seek new knowledge within their field of expertise to stay professionally up-to-date, and apply established best-practice methodologies in their professional practice. User participation is a central part of treatment decisions, and contributes to increased coping and motivation in the patient.

The course deals with EBP and best practices in an audiological (re)habilitation process, as well as the maintenance and further development of basic practical skills based on a biopsychosocial approach.

The course is carried out in two main parts:

1. Clinical practice: The student participates in a clinical activity where they meet patients under supervision and/or guidance. Here, the student has the opportunity to carry out a comprehensive audiological rehabilitation that combines theoretical knowledge from previous courses and experience from practice periods with best practice methodologies.
2. Low-threshold services: The student will participate under supervision in the operation of a free low-threshold service with a focus on counseling and information. This provides experience with communication, guidance and patient contact in an accessible and inclusive health service.

Through the course, the student will develop the ability to critically evaluate and apply research-based knowledge in practice, as well as strengthen their competence in providing patient-centered treatment in line with the principles of EBP.

Kunnskap:

Studenten

• har bred kunnskap om prinsippene for kunnskapsbasert praksis (KBP) og hvordan disse anvendes i audiologisk rehabilitering.
• har kunnskap om biopsykososiale perspektiver og hvordan disse påvirker audiologisk praksis.
• har kjennskap til metoder for innhenting, vurdering og anvendelse av forskningsbasert kunnskap i klinisk arbeid.

Ferdigheter:

Studenten

• kan anvende KBP i møte med pasienter og tilpasse tiltak basert på forskningskunnskap, klinisk erfaring og pasientens behov og preferanser.
• kan gjennomføre helhetlig audiologisk rehabilitering i tråd med beste praksis.
• kan kommunisere og veilede pasienter på en faglig og empatisk måte i både klinisk praksis og på lavterskelnivå.

Generell kompetanse:

Studenten

• kan reflektere kritisk over egen praksis og faglige valg i lys av KBP.
• kan samarbeide tverrfaglig og bidra til utvikling av audiologiske tjenester med utgangspunkt i forskningsbasert kunnskap.
• kan bidra til pasientsentrert behandling og fremme brukermedvirkning i rehabiliteringsprosesser.

• Praktisk klinisk yrkesutøvelse, både som hovedansvarlig og assisterende.
• Medvirkning i drift av et gratis lavterskeltilbud med fokus på rådgivning og informasjon.
