Knowledge:
- know the rules of German grammar sufficiently to be able to write German texts without major faults
- have a vocabulary covering texts of different genres: culture, political science and business
- know the main aspects of culture from German speaking countries in Europe (societies, geography, history) 

Skills:
- speak German with good pronunciation and intonation
- read and understand the main content of written and oral texts (adapted and authentic) of different genres 
- participate in unprepared conversations about a variety of topics including daily news topics
- articulate, orally and in writing, experiences, views and attitudes, wishes and emotions
- communicate orally on language issues and different aspects of the geography of German speaking countries
- exploit various sources of authentic German texts
- write texts in different genres 

Competence:
- be able to compare and reflect upon different aspects of traditions, customs and way of living in German speaking European countries and in Norway.
- react and communicate appropriately when meeting people from German speaking countries in various social and business settings

Pedagogiske metoder:
Oral presentations and written exercises (individually and in groups) and lectures.  

Obligatoriske arbeidskrav:
4 written assignments to be handed in and passed in addition to a minimum of 1 oral presentation in class (5 - 10 minutes) which must also be passed in order for students to sit the final exam.

Previously approved mandatory assignments do not need to be handed in again for later exams.
