Introduction to Archaeology

The tuition gives a general introduction to archaeology as an academic discipline. The discipline's history and development is emphasized as is the situation today. Further are emphasized source materials, theory and methodology as well as interpretations of the past based on material cultural remains.

A candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome according to the course curriculum, defined as knowledge and skills:

Knowledge:
The candidate has attained
- basic knowledge of the discipline of Archaeology, its history and terminology, central results and methods, as well as the research history of chosen topics

Skills:
The candidate has acquired skills to
- account for, and reflect upon, how archaeologists think; analyze and interpret earlier society

Lectures and self-study. In order to sit the exam, students must submit and get approved one written assignment (4-6 pages, 12-point Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing.)The written assignment is only given in the semester when the subject is taught, but are valid for this and the subsequent semester.
