Master's Thesis in Comparative Literature

The student chooses the subject, source material and method with guidance from their academic adviser. The student will produce an academic thesis of 30 000 to 40 000 words.

Master’s theses that are written in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language must include an abstract in English. Master’s theses that are written in a non-Scandinavian language must include an abstract in Norwegian.

Candidates will have obtained the following general competency after successfully completing this course:

The candidate:

- has the ability to complete an independent work of research on a specialized topic under the guidance of an academic supervisor

- masters scientific argumentation and critical thinking

- can present scientific issues and results extensively in writing

- fulfills the requirements of scientific publishing

Self-study, master's thesis seminar (LITT3500) and individual supervision. Master’s students at the Faculty of Humanities are required to acquaint themselves with the content of the webpage on the master’s thesis, which outlines the rights and obligations of the student, the supervisor, and the department in relation to the master's thesis.
