Sustainability Management

The course explores capacity building concepts for organizational sustainability management. Central methods and tools are introduced at product, organizational and societal level to evaluate and improve organizational performance. Emphasis is put on how companies may map, monitor, improve, document and communicate their sustainability performance.

Central topics in the course includes

• Frameworks, theories and concepts for sustainable development
• Sustainability management systems and principles
• Sustainability assessment and reporting frameworks and tools

On satisfactory completion of this course, you should be able to:

1. Describe key sustainability issues arising from anthropogenic activities
2. Define and apply key concepts, frameworks and tools within sustainability management in organizations
3. Evaluate approaches that organizations may apply to map, monitor, improve, document and communicate sustainability performance
4. Recommend approaches for organizations to improve their sustainability performance
5. Clearly communicate your ideas and findings with professionals from the public and private sector as well as academia

Lectures and exercises. Some exercises or lectures may require compulsory attendance and/or deliverables. This will be announced at the start of the semester.
