Credits Through Practice

The course contains the following:

• Project planning, plan for the practice period, progress plan
• Problem analysis and definition of scope
• Progress reports and status analysis
• Documentation/final report

The course requires independent work being performed at an engineering company. The purpose is to enlighten students and provide practical work experience relevant to the study programme.

Compulsory coursework:

• The duration of practice must equal at least 15 work days
• A plan for the practice period must be submitted
• Daily log with check-in/check-out times and description of work

A final report documenting the industrial practice must be submitted, which must contain the following attachments:

• practice plan
• complete set of daily logs
• signed certificate of completed work at company

Both the company and NTNU must provide a contact person/supervisor.

Comment: This is an elective course that can be chosen by international students on exchange. Permission to the course is at the discretion of the course coordinator dependent on available seats and student competence.

• The candidate understands and can explain how an engineering company is organised, or how an engineering research project is undertaken
• The candidate can demonstrate practical knowledge about various work techniques and technical production methods or engineering research methods
• The candidate can demonstrate knowledge about health, environment and safety

Skills

• The candidate can integrate theory and practice in real engineering work
• The candidate can connect and elaborate on knowledge and skills from the study programme
• The candidate kan contribute to solutions for engineering problems

Competence

• The candidate has experience in professional engineering work duties and work ethics
• The candidate has insight into practical problems arising in work situations
• The candidate can document project work in a scientifically sound manner

Competence is obtained through active participation in practical and theoretical work in an engineering company and through the compulsory coursework.
