The International Course on Wood Conservation Technology

The curriculum is composed of following modules:

1. Introduction: Conservation Theory and Principles

2. Wood properties

3. Climate and environment

4. Conservation of wooden objects

5. Surface treatment and climate barriers

6. Wooden built structures

The main objectives of the course are:

• analyse how and why the material properties of wood determine its processing and use
• diagnose causes of deterioration of wooden structures and objects

• prioritize the values and ethics associated with wooden structures and objects
• Practical competence and proficiency
• evaluate conservation options for damaged wooden structures and objects within the context of a range of historical and cultural practices

Lectures, group works, assignments, exercises.

A detailed course plan will be presented at the start of the semester.

The teacher will inform students at the start of the semester if there will be a voluntary excursion. Students who participate in voluntary excursions will be expected to pay an individual sum.

An estimated 10 hours of study per week is considered a realistic amount of study for participants in full-time employment.
