Documentation and Draft of Wooden Structures

To understand a building, its construction and current condition, documentation can be a tool for creating necessary knowledge beyond perceiving just its form. Also, in the case of cultural heritage management, from making alterations to preservation, documentation is the initial step in the process.

The point of the departure in this course is the examination of a traditional building through documentation of its structure, surfaces, joinery and structural integrity from a mechanical aspect. This forms a base whether you want to make alterations, transfer architectural qualities to another context or if you seek to protect the structure in a cultural heritage management perspective.

The student will learn different basic methods for measuring, documenting and sketching up structures and objects and presenting them in a report. The methods are both traditional, conventional and high-tech.

The candidate can use different scales when measuring objects.

The candidate can use methods such as basic outline and outline for documentation of existing objects.

The candidate can use simple methods for listing and sketching along the way.

The candidate can use a diary in the documentation work.

Learning should take place partly in classrooms and partly through practical work. The student will learn methods and rules for surveying and drawing documentation. Structural analyses. Exercises.
