Architecture and the City - Knowledge Course C

The aim of the course it to develop knowledge and understanding in relation to the overall theme, and the project activities, undertaken in the integrated project studio ‘AAR4731 Architecture and City - Project Course C’. The course requires students to undertake research and analytical activities in relation to one or more architectural, urban design or planning related topics.

Knowledge

The candidate:

- has achieved advanced and new knowledge within the knowledge field of architecture which is related to the theme of the design project in the attached design course.

- has advanced and relevant aesthetic and practical understanding (tacit knowledge) and shows progression of this.

- has developed an advanced experiential knowledge of the relationship between architectural representations at different levels of abstraction, and built architecture, towns and cities that are in use over time.

-has advanced knowledge of different aspects of sustainability and can relate these in known and new ways to their own work.

Skills

The candidate:

- is in command, and develops their use, of a range of architectural methods, tools, and forms of expression.

- is able to critically assess and recognize quality in architecture and / or cities and towns and can make use of such assessments in their own work.

- can navigate within research and development in the field of architecture and can apply this knowledge in their own work and through academic texts and production.

-is able to assess and evaluate their own work in light of the different aspects of sustainability and can put these in both known and new relations to esthetic and architectural quality.

General competence

The candidate:

- takes independent responsibility for their own learning and professional development and is able to apply their knowledge in new fields.

- is able to reflect critically and ethically on their own architectural work and create new frameworks for understanding and shows progress within this.

- is able to communicate architectural work at a professional level and in an academic context.

- relates and develops their professional competence and commitment to important societal issues and sustainability.

This course is offered to incoming exchange students and will be taught in English if necessary.
