Experimental practice

This course is a 7.5 SP theory course, and if you choose the specialization area Experimental Practices within the design subject AAR 4690 Sirkulærstudio - Materialer, this is a compulsory companion course.

The course discusses architectural theory and aesthetics in close connection with the design course and project. The relationship between theory and practice is examined from interdisciplinary perspectives with a particular focus on the artistic process. In addition to the practice of academic writing, creative writing strategies develop spatial imagination as well as critical examination of questions related to architectural practice.

Knowledge: Knowledge of the interaction between architectural thinking and practice, as well as the value of interdisciplinary theories for architectural thinking and practice.

Skills: Ability to reflect critically on theory in relation to architectural practice and the architectural profession. Ability to formulate theoretical positions and test these in practice. Ability to argue coherently for theoretical ideas in written form related to architectural practice. Ability to formulate and communicate spatial ideas through creative writing.

General competence: Ability to independently take responsibility for one's own learning and academic development as well as apply one's knowledge in other fields. Ability to reflect critically and ethically on one’s own creative work.

Lectures, seminars, reading and writing activities, written reflection on one's own project and practice of design in a broader sense.
