Timber Structures A

Central themes are wooden architecture, site analysis, form, space, the properties of wooden materials, chemical and mechanical protection of wooden materials, one-to-one scale, static priciples of timber strucures and their relationship to architectural expression.

The course gives the students knowledge in integral approach as a model for handling complex matters. Skills in handling complex design tasks, preparing students for the level of quality and complexity that are required for the master thesis are developed.Through the course, the students will acquire general competence in developing timber structures into wood architecture.

The course consists mainly of design work focusing on large timber structures where the structural system is important to the architectural expression. Excursions are voluntary.
