Basic training in the design of urban housing:
- housing typologies and organizational principles
- urban fabric, outdoor spaces and facades

- housing design based on society-defined issues

URBAN DESIGN: 10% HOUSING DESIGN: 70% TECHNOLOGY: 20%

- Knowledge about the dimensioning architectural elements and functions in a dwelling, housing typologies and organisational principles.
- Knowledge about the current architectural discussion related to housing design.
- Knowledge about the role of housing in society.
- Basic housing design skills based on the knowledge acquired in the studio. Emphasis is on dwelling quality, quality of housing areas, as well as the ability to present architectural ideas in drawings and models.
- General competence in design methods, construction principles, building materials, and detailing.
- Basic skills in handling CAD tools.

The course is conducted as one or several design excercises related to new housing, or renewal and refurbishment of dwellings and housing areas, with a focus on environmental considerations. Drawing and model making forms the main core of the studio. The course also includes a more theoretical part involving writing. Teaching will be conducted as lectures, seminars, discussions and critics, as well as regular tutoring individually and in groups. The course includes an excursion to study built residential projects.
