Design as a Creative Process

Different working methods and presentation techniques enable the designer of technical constructions, apparatuses, buildings and other objects for practical use, to develop his ideas from different points of view. This course will teach the students to use some working methods and presentation techniques that belong to the pictorial arts, especially free hand drawing. In the pictorial arts these methods and techniques are linked to a creative way of thinking that may be of use also to non-artistic fields of knowledge. The course offers a basic introduction to this creative way of thinking too.

The objective of this course is to provide the students with knowledge and understanding of different methods of depiction as well as giving them an insight into the basic principles of form that are required to work with design.

Lectures and exercises Students will work with pencils, compasses and rulers only on paper and model building. This is considered the experience base required to utilize the computer as a tool in creating/designing physical products. Exercises with individual tutoring constitute an important part of the education (learning by doing). Lessons will be given in English if some international students follow the course.
