In connection with and in addition to the practical interpreting exercises students will work with themes such as:
- Preparing for different types of interpreting assignments
- Team interpreting and cooperation
- From conveying the gist of something to conveying nuances and details
- Coordination
- The interpreter's role, place and how to act during different interpreting assignments
- The importance of context for interpreting
- Interpreting dialogues and interpreting monologues

Candidates
- have knowledge about how the interpreter and interpreting affect a communication situation
- have knowledge about social and ethical challenges connected to the interpreter's role in different situations
- have knowledge about how an interpreter can prepare for different interpreting assignments
- have knowledge about how various factors in an interpreting situation can affect the quality of the interpreting

Skills
Candidates
- can prepare and conduct an interpreting assignment for deaf persons
- can adapt their language and conduct in accordance with the interpreting situation and the individual user
- can use their professional knowledge and experiences in order to make professional choices
- can analyze and reflect on the professional practice of themselves and others in order to make sure the quality of the interpreting is the best possible, adapted to the situation and to the needs of the individual user
- can evaluate the degree of difficulty of various interpreting assignments as seen in regards to their own interpreting skills, professional conditions and ethical challenges

Teaching methods

Interpreting exercises individually, in pairs and in groups, role plays, group and class discussions, supervision, video analysis, practicum periods and reflective notes.
To strengthen students' learning and development of interpreting skills systematic training on the students' own is essential.
